These guys are the real deal. Their story starts the way all good farming stories should, with a single, unforgettable taste of food that reminded them what food is actually supposed to be like. From there, they traded everything for a neglected apple orchard and a community of supporters, and built something truly special.
I got hooked on their apple juices first. They stock a range you can find at farmers markets and stockists, but the ones that really stopped me in my tracks were the single-variety juices you could only get direct from the farm. Flavours you simply don’t find on a supermarket shelf, honest, bright, and tasting exactly like the orchard they came from, you will never taste apple juice as good as this, I hadn’t.
Then there was the beef. Packaged up beautifully, ethically raised, and you could taste the difference immediately. This is what sustainable, thoughtful farming looks and tastes like, animals raised with care, on land that’s being looked after, not exploited.
As someone now building my own little piece of that lifestyle here on the NSW mid-north coast, Our Mates’ Farm is exactly the kind of operation that inspires me. They’re proof that doing it properly, slowly, carefully, with integrity, is absolutely worth it.
If you’re ever in Tasmania, go find them. You won’t regret it.
